Analysis of a Public Health Campaign
A city's public health department launches a campaign to reduce smoking rates. The campaign focuses solely on distributing pamphlets that detail the negative health consequences of smoking, such as lung cancer and heart disease. Despite a wide distribution, after one year, smoking rates in the city have not significantly decreased. Based on the common research topics in health psychology, analyze two distinct factors, other than a lack of information, that could explain why this campaign was ineffective. For each factor, explain its potential role in maintaining smoking behaviors.
