Treatment of COVID-19 Patients with Quercetin: A Prospective, Single - Centre, Randomized, Controlled Trial
Discussion: Treatment of COVID-19 Patients with Quercetin: A Prospective, Single - Centre, Randomized, Controlled Trial.
Ultimately, it was found that the supplementation of quercetin, vitamin C, and bromelain are effective in the treatment of COVID-19.
It is thought that quercetin itself is the source for this effective treatment, as it has been shown to inhibit the replication of SARS-CoV-2, and this study provided further evidence for this to be the case. However, the bioavailability of quercettin is extremely low due to absorption in the gut, making it less effective. Therefore, this study included vitamin C and bromelain into the daily supplementation. With the addition of vitamin C and bromelain in the daily supplementation of quercetin, the bioavailability of quercetin is greatly increased, with each alone improving the bioavailability of quercetin from 50% to 80%.
Since there have been no adverse effects of this supplementation, and the biomarkers demonstrated a positive effect for the use of QCB daily supplementation as an added treatment to COVID-19, it is recommended that this be added to the standard treatment of COVID-19.
