Malamed’s chunking strategy procedure:
- “Chunking refers to the strategy of breaking down information into bite-sized pieces so the brain can more easily digest new information.” 
- Preparation – break down paragraphs into phrases/sentences or pages into paragraphs/sections
- Review reading strategies – review decoding strategies
- Chunk the text – teachers break up text or have students do it themselves
- Paraphrase meaning – students rewrite each chunk in their own words
- Assessment and sharing – test comprehension or compare original vs. paraphrased text

The Effectiveness of Using Chunking Strategy to Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension at the Second Year of SMP Negeri 2 Barombong - Literature Review

- Students took a pre-test on February 23th, 2015 that consisted of 20 multiple choice questions to be completed in 40 minutes on paper 
- Students in chunking treatment had 6 meetings to learn about chunking
- During meetings, students practiced chunking on different texts based on their preferences and understanding 
- All students took a post-test on March 11th, 2015 with 20 multiple choice questions again to be completed in 40 minutes on paper
