A node is a descendant of another node if the latter node contains indirect prerequisite information that is necessary for learning the content of the current node. For example, if node A is a child of node B and node B is a child of node C, then node A is a descendant of node C. Any children or descendants of node A are also descendants of node C.

A node is a sibling of another node when the two nodes share a parent node. A node can have multiple siblings.

A node is an ancestor of another node when it contains indirect prerequisite information that a user must understand to learn the current node. For example, if node A is a parent of node B, and node B is a parent of node C, then node A is an ancestor of node C. Any parents or ancestors of node A are also ancestors of node C.

A node is a child of another node when the latter (its parent) contains direct prerequisite information that a user must understand to be able to learn the child node. A node can have multiple child nodes and can be a child to multiple nodes.

A node is a parent of a child node when the parent's content is a direct, immediate prerequisite for learning the child node. A node can have multiple parents and can also be the parent of multiple child nodes.

A node is a rectangular box that represents a granular piece of knowledge, summarized in its title and explained in its content.

Nodes are connected to other nodes. Together, they make up a hierarchical Knowledge Graph.

1Cademy Nodes

In the 1Cademy shared knowledge graph, nodes are linked hierarchically based on prerequisite relations. If learning the content of Node A requires first understanding the content of Node B, then Node B is defined as a prerequisite (parent) of Node A. A node can have multiple prerequisite links and can serve as a prerequisite for multiple other nodes.

1Cademy Node Visibility

A visualization of some nodes and prerequisite links between them, which is hierarchically organized and personalized for a specific 1Cademy user. The map supports four overarching learning activities: navigation, summarization, evaluation, and improvement.

1Cademy Personalized Knowledge Map View

Enables creation, evaluation, and improvement of nodes and prerequisite links on the 1Cademy shared knowledge graph.

It also supports peer review and reputation building through proposing nodes, editing nodes, and voting on node proposals.
