Steps of Writing Creative Writing Short Story: Develop Characters

A story can introduce its main characters through their initial actions and interactions. For instance, a character named Lily is introduced as curious when she finds a mysterious key, and her cat, Whiskers, is shown to be an active participant in the story by excitedly leading her towards an old oak tree.

A prompt for a short story can establish the primary characters as a starting point. For example, a writer might be tasked with creating a narrative about three characters, with the first two being defined as a boy named Andy and his dog.
