Steps of Writing Creative Writing Short Story: Outline the Plot

The rising action in a narrative builds upon the inciting incident to increase suspense. For instance, after Lily discovers a mysterious key, the plot progresses as her cat, Whiskers, leads her to an old oak tree. The action escalates further when Whiskers begins pawing at something concealed under leaves, signaling an imminent discovery and advancing the story toward its climax.

Example of Rising Action: Following a Clue to a Discovery

Sketch a broad outline of the major events in your story, ensuring they flow logically and build towards a climax.
